‘Sperm Whale 2’ by Saman Moghadam gains the title of highest-grossing film in Iran cinema history, a report says.
According to Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs, the top three were screened in the current year (March 2017-18), adding Moghadam which raked in 209.41 billion rials ($4.96 million) stood at the top spot.
Standing in second and third were ‘Patrol 2’ directed by Saeed Soheili grossing 197.81 billion rials ($4.6 million) and ‘The Good, the Bad and the Gaudy’ by Peyman Qasemkhani with 162.88 billion rials ($3.86 million).
The report alos notes since the fiscal year of March 2014-15, 11 films have each managed to gross over 100 billion rials ($2.37 million).
Sperm Whale 2’ is a sequel to Moqaddam’s ‘The Whale’, a comedy released in 2015. ‘Sperm Whale 2’ tells the story of Roya (Mahnaz Afshar), who had dreams of migration to the US, but finally agreed to marry Arjang Senoubar (Reza Attaran) in her homeland.
